You will receive valuable real-world work experience with a cutting-edge art brand, app, and database.
Like music, movies, books, and photography, art is moving into the digital realm. Understanding and having experience with this transition should be very helpful as you look for employment in your field in the future.
You may also be able to receive credit for the internship through your school.

Art Authority started as an app for iPad, iPhone, and Macintosh, but has now evolved into a brand, as well as the name of our company. The brand includes not only the app line (both Art Authority and Art Channel apps) but also our internship program.
The Art Authority app line provides access to a comprehensive collection of works by over 1,000 of the western world's major artists, from ancient times to today. Organized by period and artist, Art Authority's 100,000+ paintings and sculptures are downloaded as needed and displayed chronologically for each artist, with detailed captioning. In-depth information about many of the works themselves, and the periods, locations and artists is also available.

See the Program page for details and requirements.

The internet is an excellent source of high-quality images and information. Libraries are also excellent sources of print material. High-quality scans will need to be made of any print-sourced material.
Additional details will be provided as part of the program.

Where possible we would like to match students to their areas of interest, having you work on artists in those areas. But often we will need to assign specific artists or other projects to specific students.
-
We will be providing all interns with free copies of the Art Authority app for whichever devices you will be using. If you do not have an iPad, iPhone or Mac, you will be able to access much of the collection through our community site, community.artauthority.net

Yes. You may work from wherever you would like, so long as you have a good Internet connection there. Art Authority's main offices are in Ashland, Oregon but there is no need to actually visit us here.
Your Intern Manager can help arrange an in-person visit to one of our Museum Partners. Be sure to indicate your interest at the beginning of your internship.

The internship period will last a minimum of 8 weeks, and we will expect you to provide us with your schedule at the start of the program. Interns are expected to devote a minimum of 20 hours per week or 4 hours per day. More is better. Specific work times are flexible, but some hours will need to be between 9am-4pm Pacific time Monday-Friday.
-
Sorry, but at the current time, all positions are unpaid. We understand that you may also need a paid summer job, which is why only a minimum of 20 hours per week is required for the internship.
You can receive course credit for this internship.

After we have reviewed your application and resume, we will contact you by email to schedule a brief interview via Zoom. Within a week after that interview, we will notify you by email regarding acceptance.

Due to its age, most classic art is in the public domain. Many modern and contemporary artists' work is not however and is handled differently. See the Art Authority FAQ for details.
